Gerard Salonga, Music Director |
Gerard Salonga
Gerard Salonga started playing the piano at age 5. Since then he has worked as musical director, arranger, conductor, and record producer for artists such as Lea Salonga, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Gary Valenciano, and Lani Misalucha. He has arranged and conducted the Manila Philharmonic and Philippine Philharmonic Orchestras, among others. He is a three-time recipient of the Aliw Award for Best Musical Director. In 2004 and 2005 he arranged and produced The Filipino Channel's station IDs, both of which won the Promax World Silver Award in New York (Best Use of Music/Post Score with or without lyrics). His most recent honor came this year with the Awit Award for Best Musical Arrangement.
He is married to violinist Divina Francisco, and is now the music director of Carmel House Studios, a music and audio recording/post-production facility in Manila. Last year he conducted Carmel House's in-house recording ensemble, the Global Studio Orchestra, on the score and arranged songs for the animated motion picture "Tugger", starring Jim Belushi, which is playing in theaters through the U.S. Future projects include more recordings and film scores with the orchestra, and several albums for prominent recording artists. This year, he and the orchestra have embarked on a series of CD's entitled Musika Natin, a collection celebrating the genius of Filipino musical artists.
Gerard received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1994, and in 1998 graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. That year he also received Berklee's Contemporary Writing and Production Achievement Award.
He dedicates his work to God, and every Filipino musician.
